The Caesar - Maintaining the Crown

Julius Caesar is what many think of when they hear the word "Caesar", but most guys know that this is also a colloquial name of a specific hairstyle.example
 the brushed to the front  hairstyle that the Roman emperors were known for. It's a fairly easy style to maintain, depending on your texture of hair. Here's some tips to maintaining the crown. Caesar

1. Get to know your kingdom. There's a point in any man's life where it is a good idea to visit a salon and get a consultation on your hair. Sounds exorbitant? Nope, it only needs to happen once, and it is easy. Simple Smart way to do this is get an inexpensive service done, like maybe just a trim of your hair, or eyebrow threading or the like, and then let the hairstylist know that you are trying to develop your trademark hairstyle and would like their assistance. This will catch their attention, and make them feel like you might be a long term customer. This will give you their full attention. Once established, use this visit to have a professional tell you about your hair, and listen. Ask them what is the pattern for your hair - how does it grow, what's the shape of your head, are there any areas that should concern you? Knowing these things will help you to prepare for your cut and maintaining the style.

2.  Prepare your royal court. Ask around and observe friends that have one or both of these two qualities: have the haircut you like, and hair texture like yours. Some stylists/barbers can be great with one type of hair and fail at other. In the case of finding a new barber, again, try a shape up first or something minimal to see how they are, how they are with their clients. Be quiet and observant and you'll see if this is the right barber for you. If you are staying with the same barber, maybe go in a little early, or call them up beforehand and let them know that you are switching styles.

3. Prepare to fortify the kingdom. A caesar, whether you are going for a long or short version, should be simple, sleek but not slick, and imperfect. Many, including me, have committed the royal crime of trying to make this style too perfect. Caesar might have been a ruler, but he was just a man, so your style should be that natural. Use a light oil, like an olive oil combination, or a light shine spray like Fructis, to finish this off.

4. Don't let the boundaries expand. Caesars liked to take over different lands, but your Caesar style should not travel too much. Even if you are growing it out, mixing in a faux hawk style, or letting it grow, the general blend should remain the same. Especially if you are keeping it short, you should probably, depending on how fast your hair grows, get a full cut one time and next get a shape up.

I live in New York, but no matter where you go, there are pundits and critics everywhere that want to give their opinions on style. Joan Rivers and Kelly Osbourne dish on every celebrity faux pas and fashion moment, even though I'm not sure who selected them initially to be the judges of what's hot and not. Bloggers all over chime in about the latest $300 handbag, or $1000 suit.

That's cool, but when was the last time that you watched a runway show and went out and purchased that same outfit to wear to work the next day?

Didn't think so...

So here's the deal - in line with my brand of humor and wit, I am going to throw my hat into the ring of lifestyle and fashion bloggers. I am going to be focusing on things that I come across that pertain to fashion, lifestyle, entertainment and the like - style that is both smart and simple. Smart means that it won't be the answer that everyone would think of, but once delivered, one that others will appreciate. Simple means that in order to follow some suggestions for fashion and style, you either need a $1 million budget, or lots of time, resources, and a personal assistant. The regular guy can indulge himself in style with losing a lot of money or time. 

So SSS (Simple Smart Style) will be a portion of my branding dedicated to fashion and lifestyle hints and info for the regular dude. I encourage your questions, comments and thoughts.
